Julian Assange, the founder of the WikiLeaks website, remains at the Ecuadorean embassy in London. All because of Bradley Manning who passed classified material to the whistleblower website WikiLeaks by downloading 250,000 State Department cables to compact discs from a computer terminal in Kuwait.

If only the DOD had disabled removable storage devices, wonder where Julian Assange would have been today? Most organizations face risk of data leakage, because most organizations like the DOD don’t have systems and process in place to monitor leakage of sensitive information from their networks.

But disabling removable storage devices, is only one step of the many needed to protect sensitive data. Are you sure you have taken all the others?

So here’s the tip of the week:

"Start with an assessment of your Data Leakage risks. Find out how deep in water you are and what you need to do to reach safe shores."
